Having spent a lifetime building and fabricating home grown projects as a hobby and while working as a welder for the DuPont Company, building things just seemed to come natural. Having a teaching degree in Industrial Technology from Sul Ross State University, I later pursued a career in education.
Charles Wendt
Founder and owner Charles Wendt taught Industrial Technology in Van Horn High School while making spurs as a hobby and using the techniques of spur making as a teaching tool. Several of his metal shop students learned the art of spur making from Charles. As the demand for his spurs grew, Nailhead Spur Co. was created in 1996 and operated out of his home shop. In 1998, Charles and his wife Euneen relocated to Llano, Texas, and opened a retail outlet and spur fabrication business. The original store was located on the north side of the Llano River at 305 Bessemer. The business quickly outgrew its location with the addition of custom signs, fire screens, light fixtures, and other home decoration products. In 2000, the business relocated to its present location at 701 Ford Street on the south side of the Llano River.
At the time the business moved to it’s present location at 701 Ford St, Richard Wendt, the son of Charles and Euneen Wendt became a full partner in the business helping it to grow to it current size. Over the years Richard became more active in the business and after over 10 years of experience in all aspects of the business he is taking over the leadership role as the president and new owner of Nailhead Spur Co. Inc. Charles has elected to semi- retire and take with him the spur making business and catering business. The new venture will be known as Rocking W Spurs and Rocking W Chuck Wagon Catering and will be located at 1205 RR 2323 in Llano, Texas. Charles will continue to make the high quality spurs that he has become known for over the years. The semi-retirement will allow more time to spend concentrating on improving the spurs and adding on additional one of a kind pieces like buckle, jewelry and several other quality western products. Charles and the Rockin” Dubya cooking crew will continue to compete in the chuck wagon cook offs and provide their high quality catering experiences for private parties and public events.
